3 Days

The comprehensive HSE qualification for higher-risk workplaces or businesses with 25+ employees.

Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW)

1 Day

The essential life-saving course for lower-risk workplaces or smaller teams needing a qualified first aider fast.

  • Treating shock, bleeding and burns
  • Certificate valid for 3 years

First Aid at Work Refresher

2 Days

Requalification course for current FAW certificate holders. Must be completed before your existing certificate expires.

  • Updated techniques and protocols
  • Skills reassessment and practice
  • New 3-year certificate on completion

How long does a first aid at work certificate last?
A First Aid at Work (FAW) certificate is valid for 3 years. You must complete a requalification course before it expires to remain compliant with the Health and Safety (First-Aid) Regulations 1981.
How many first aiders does my business need?
The HSE recommends at least one appointed person for low-risk workplaces with fewer than 25 employees. Higher-risk environments or larger teams require one or more qualified first aiders. A first aid needs assessment determines the exact number.
Can you deliver first aid training at our premises?
Yes. All GBS first aid courses are delivered on-site at your workplace across Cheshire, the North West, Midlands and North Wales. This minimises disruption and lets us tailor scenarios to your specific environment.
What is the difference between FAW and EFAW?
Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) is a 1-day course covering essential life-saving skills. First Aid at Work (FAW) is a more comprehensive 3-day course. The HSE determines which your business needs based on your risk assessment.
What happens if my first aid certificate has expired?
If your certificate has lapsed, you are no longer a qualified first aider in the eyes of the HSE. Your employer must arrange requalification promptly. If it expired recently, a 2-day refresher may be accepted; otherwise the full 3-day FAW course is required.
